Honda is hard at work developing an all-new hybrid drive system that will go into
large cars and sport-utility vehicles within the next two years.
The first part of that strategy will include the unveiling of the Honda CR-Z hybrid, a small two-seater being billed as a sporty alternative to traditional hybrids.
The CR-Z would use a single electric motor coupled to a 1.5-litre four-cylinder engine. The car is expected to return 6.5 l/100 km in city driving and 6.3 l/100 km on the highway.
The CR-Z hybrid launches in North America in summer 2010 and although no precise launch dates were given, the new system will spread to large cars, tall wagons and sport-utility vehicles.
